It is estimated that over forty million children in the world are obese or overweight. The World Health Organization regularly publishes studies and analyses of these issues. During the past decade or so, we’ve seen an incredible rise in childhood obesity, and in most cases, it is due to unhealthy lifestyles.

It goes without saying that most parents are focused on putting food on the table, which is to say that they are stressed enough at their job and with their own routines. Nevertheless, since the feeding habits of Americans and the rest of the world have changed drastically in the last years, it stands to reason that we also have to change our mindsets.

Preventing child obesity should be one of the most important aspects that parents and health organizations should concentrate on. Creating bad habits from childhood usually has a negative impact on the person’s development later on, in adulthood. We’ve put together a list of three tips and pieces of advice that might assist you in dealing with your child’s tendency to gain weight.

Make a diet plan
If you’ve ever seen some meal prepping videos on YouTube, you know that some people take nutrition very seriously. If you have nothing against eating the same thing over and over again as long as you use your imagination and come up with solutions to make the dishes a bit more appealing, then by all means, meal prepping can be the right way for you.

One way to avoid children getting exposed to all sorts of delicious yet fattening snacks is to make them at home. Use a nice-looking lunch box to give the kid yummy and healthy treats. Keep tabs on what you are feeding him or her so that you don’t risk using too much salt, protein, or fat.

A comfortable exercise routine
The problem with so many kids nowadays is that they don’t get enough exercise. Back in the day, we used to go out and play with the neighbor’s kids. But now, things have changed a lot as many children spend time indoors with their tablets or smartphones in hand. These electronic devices aren’t the best when it comes to ensuring the entertainment of kids, even though they have their benefits.

Try to make sports fun for your son or daughter. Choosing a punching bag for your kid might be a solution, especially if you’re also into boxing and you’ve already installed a heavy bag for yourself in your basement. Try to use every resource you come across; combine exercise with music and audiobooks so as to make it more entertaining.

Focus on changing the child’s mindset
Eating well and maintaining a workout routine aren’t two fun things to do. On the other hand, going to McDonald’s and lazing on the couch are two particularly entertaining activities. So find a way to communicate with the child and explain to them that building healthy habits now is going to help them live longer and be happier. You could even tell them the story of endorphins and how they make humans feel at ease after going through a workout session.
