This is officially Wasabi Media Group’s first relationship article. When it comes to thinking of topics for such an article, there are thousands of examples relationship advice, complaints, concerns, and general grievances against past lovers, significant others, and even spouses. So, from this article on, we are opening up the floor to the readers. Simply submit a question, comment, or situation that should be written about, and we will gladly do so.

For this installment, let’s focus on the relationship of a college student, such as myself. Being as I am a college-aged, fairly typical male, my relationship advice and rants should reach the greater audience, as relationships seem to boil down to one thing – no matter age, sexual orientation, or relationship experience. The fundamental crux of all relationships: trust.

Building trust in a relationship is fundamental for naïve high school relationships, budding college love stories, engagements, marriages, and even later in life relationships. Trust is by no means easy to come by, especially after having a broken heart for the first time, or even every time after that; however, trust, when built properly, lays the ground work for a stable and healthy relationship that is destined to last. Trust can create understanding between partners where confusion lived before. Trust can be built through things as simple as apologizing for mistakes, explaining points of view without getting angry, and especially making promises and following through on them.

The issue of trust has ended some of the greatest relationships. Throughout history, the issue of trust appears far more than any other. In several of my own past relationships, as I am sure with many readers, the loss of trust in someone meant a loss of a relationship. I was dating someone last year who was always flirted with the coffee shop barista each time we went there on a date. My significant other told me I had nothing to worry about when I had questions about the barista. It came to my attention a few months later that they were indeed dating behind my back. And this, naturally, shattered my trust completely. Many have similar stories – stories of broken trust.

Even after such heartbreak, it is important to build up trust again, or happiness will be hard to find. I have had to tell myself this mantra quite frequently in the previous months, that although this individual did something hurtful, not everyone is capable of that. It is important to keep an open mind and an open heart when approaching new relationships. Do not let the “ex” win by shattering your trust in future relationships. As the great, fictional Carrie Bradshaw wrote, “without trust, you really don’t have anything.” This is important to remember in any relationship.

Again, if readers have suggestions for topics for future relationship articles, please feel free to comment or email them, and we will be sure to address them.
