Pain vs. Stress: You Win

There seem to be some direct correlations between stress and chronic pain, but experts are not all in agreement as to what those are, exactly. Many people who have been diagnosed with chronic pain or illness have noted a particularly stressful event in their lives just prior to onset. Of course, this does not necessarily mean stress causes chronic conditions, but that is one theory that has been explored.
