by Dean Heller MD October 4th, 2013 | Ask the Doctor
Q:  I am 14 and I really do not want to talk to my mother about this, but I am curious, so I wanted to try and get an answer from an expert.  For the past year or so I have been having pain in the back and on the sides of my neck.  My mother has seen me touching my neck and her response is soooo typical "stop texting so much".  So my question is, could it be something else, or is it possible my mother is right, and it is all the texting

Q:  I have high cholesterol and my doctor is worried that I may have a heart attack as all of my older brothers have had heart attacks.  He wants me to take lipitor for the cholesterol.

I am angry; I don't know why I got this.

I know this is a difficult time to be diagnosed with cancer at a young age, however, if your cervical cancer is early,

My foot doctor told me I have a bunion and I should wear comfortable shoes and should not squeeze my foot into tight fitting shoes.  I am very girly and single and like wearing nice shoes out, what else can I do?

Bunions are a very common problem.  Your footwear can definitely play a role in getting a bunion and making it worse, but there are other factors, some people think they may be partially hereditary.  Taking an anti-inflammatory, such as motrin can help with the inflammation of the tissue around the bones that caused the bunion.  Local therapy with

Does Chemotherapy Hurt?

by Dean Heller MD August 30th, 2013 | Ask the Doctor
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery to remove the lump, and now she needs chemotherapy.  She took a while to recover from the surgery, and she is very afraid that the chemotherapy is going to cause her more pain.  So my question to you is, "does chemotherapy hurt"?

Going through cancer is a very difficult thing, so in addition to the physical pain of the breast surgery there is a lot of emotional pain.  Not only dealing with the fact that you have cancer, but also fear of the unknown, including further treatment.  You can tell
