The South Beach Diet is one of several “low-carb” diets that encourage dieters to monitor the nature of the calories that they consume. Unlike the Atkins diet, which focuses solely on reducing carbohydrate consumption, the South Beach Diet advises its followers to consume a balanced diet of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts, as well as lean meats. In addition, there are prepared foods available, such as South Beach Breakfast Bars. The South Beach Diet was developed by cardiologist Dr. Arthur Agatston.
