To lose a few pounds without compromising on your health and having to give up on your favorite sweet treats like chocolate, certain fruits and vegetables can truly be our allies. Not only do they come with amazing properties such as appetite control, boosting up the metabolism and fat-burning capabilities, but those superfoods are also packed with nutrients, fiber and vitamins: everything you need to lose weight or stay in shape and leaving you feeling good about yourself. Many of the acclaimed superfoods like kale, acai berries, and spirulina can be quite expensive and more difficult to find despite their popularity. But don’t underestimate the following fruits and vegs: a low-key and cheaper alternative, they hide many benefits.
- Courgettes
Courgettes are unassumingly common and may be found in just about any corner shop, supermarket, even perhaps in your own garden. But don’t let this fool you as they are extremely good to help boost your organism: to be digested, courgettes need a lot more calories, all while being extremely low in energy and in sodium, high in fibers. The perfect, low-key ingredients to your go-to meals!
- Aubergines
Aubergines help decrease fat absorption in the organism by trapping fatty cells thanks to its high levels of pectin. They have many health benefits, as long as you don’t eat them fried up in a liter of oil. They’re also Yotam Ottolenghi’s star ingredient. The star chef uses it in many of his middle-eastern recipes: packed with flavour and good for you!
- Cabbage
Yet another vegetable whose superfood properties might be a little underrated, cabbage comes in many different sorts but it also belong to the infamous negative-calorie food group: a group of food that requires more energy to be digested than what they bring to your organism.
- Pineapple
Pineapple contains bromelain, a special enzyme that helps the body get rid of fat cells, and even cellulite.
- Â Lemon
Full of fiber and vitamin C, it’s also high in pectin, know for helping to reduce hunger naturally. Added bonus: pectin also helps to keep you feeling full for longer.
- Cinnamon
It has been scientifically proven that cinnamon can actually lower sugar levels in the blood. When ingested in large quantities, sugar gets turned into fat so cinnamon acts as a barrier against this natural process. It’s also delicious used as a substitute to sugar in many desserts.
- Oatmeal
Oatmeal is the most efficient wholegrain out there. Very high in fibers, it helps with digestion and with getting rid of fat in the process. Perfect for breakfast with a yogurt and a little fruit!
