Walking can help you lose weight and get in shape. One of the benefits of walking as an exercise is all you need to start is a pair of sneakers and a place to walk! According to MSN.com, there are several great walking workouts ideal for weight loss. Some people may think you simply walk – not so. There actually are different ways to walk.

Someone new to walking may just wish to get used to walking on a regular basis before they try different types of walking. Adding in the regular habit of walking will help you lose weight and get in shape even if you don’t do a specific type of walk. But intermediate to advanced walkers especially will appreciate having different types of walks to try. If you’ve been walking for a bit, consider doing different walking workouts to confuse your body. When your body doesn’t quite know what to expect, you give it a stronger workout, as it is surprised and faces each workout with fresh reactions. Doing the same exercises over and over – our bodies get used to the routine and will actually burn the same or sometimes less calories.

A popular type of walking workout is an interval walk. For this walk you’ll want to alternate walking quickly and then at a relaxed (but steady) pace. MSN.com suggests walking for 2 minutes quickly and then 2 minutes at your “regular” pace. This walk can help increase the fat you burn, a very appealing thought for any dieter.

Longer walks are another choice that can continue your calorie burning state for a long time. According to MSN.com, you’ll burn calories for up to 7.5 hours after you exercise. That’s quite a benefit for a longer walk! This alone can have dieters reaching for their mp3 players and heading ouot. Or try walking with a buddy and socialize on your walk. Somehow when you walk with someone else, the blocks or miles just seem to go on by as you have a good time.
